According to UK theater company Headlong’s 2012-2013 season announcement, the group will be producing playwright Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Grammy and Tony-winning songwriter Duncan Sheik’s musical American Psycho, based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis. Directed by Rupert Goold, the show will be a co-production with Act 4 Entertainment and The Collective. No word yet on where or exactly when the show will be produced, but it is likely to take the stage in 2013.

UK’s Headlong Theatre to Produce AMERICAN PSYCHO in 2013?

I’m torn between thinking this is a fantastic idea or just a disaster. I’m hoping for fantastic.

This sounds awesome. Maybe bad-awesome, but I would see it.

Revamped 'Cinderella' Aiming for Broadway | NY Times

turnabout:

“Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella,” based on the 1957 television musical starring Julie Andrews, will be reconceived with the intent of bringing it to Broadway in 2012.

I guess everyone saw there were no musicals and decided to pull out whatever was close in their pipeline.

I wanted to say this could be fun, then I read this:

Ms. Goodman said that the biggest twist was having Cinderella “rescue the prince by teaching him good values.”

Yikes.

True. But I also haven’t heard one report that thinks that the book was interesting (or even coherent) or the music was good. And it’s all well and good to do some cool stunts, but it should be in the service of a good play, to begin with.
And there’s only so much plot and song that can be replaced in 6 weeks of previews, especially when there’s so much tech on top of it.

Ha! Well, I wouldn’t pay full price to see it. But if they had, say, $15 tickets, I would go just for the spectacle. With extremely low expectations, of course.
