Shelby, this will be of interest to you.

Awesome! I sense that one day I will have to make a Civil War-era dress…if only so I can go to the Civil War balls.

Did a mock-up of my combination today! This project has taught me how to sew a dart. Now I need to hit the notions and trim stores for buttons and lace. (Also, I broke down and bought a ruffler and invisible zipper foot. These will be a great help in making 1. petticoats, and 2. skirts and dresses for non-costume wear.)

omg, Victorian fancy dress ball in March! I know exactly what I’m wearing. Gotta get to work on all those 1880s underthings I now have patterns for…. (Yes, two of my Christmas presents were patterns for Victorian underwear. I have to make a combination, bustle, and at least one petticoat. A period corset will have to wait, but I have a cheap one that should work for what I want to do.)

Now that I’ve actually read Persuasion, I have to say the portrayal of Anne in the 1995 movie is a bit too mousey. That said, I cannot resist a man in uniform—particularly historical uniform!—so this remains probably my favorite Austen. (Also, I loooove the spencer she wears in the scenes in Bath. Ah, another addition to my “to-sew” list.)

(I’m sure I’ve seen the 2007 version, but I cannot remember any of it…aside from Tony Head, of course.)
